The LIFE Waste2Coag project concluded the demonstration of the ELS technology with the case study in Belgium at the Wulpen urban WWTP. Brines from the drinking water facility of Aquaduin were treated to produce Al-based coagulants.

Compared to the previous urban case study in Gandia WWTP (Spain), a higher energy consumption was employed (32.9 kWh/kgAl) due to the lower conductivity of the treated brines, and a metal concentration of 910 mgAl/L in the coagulants was obtained.
